Bus Driver STATEMENT OF JOB:
The Bus Driver will transport the Head Start children, families and/or staff in a safe manner.
The Bus Driver will report indirectly to the Site Supervisor, and directly to the Transportation Supervisor.
The duties and responsibilities of the Bus Driver shall include, but not necessarily be limited to the following:
Follow protocol and agency Policies and Procedures guidelines.
Ensures completeness and accuracy of information.
Responds appropriately when discrepancies are noted.
Maintain regular departmental filing and records.
Attends staff / department meetings, trainings and workshops as assigned.
Possess knowledge of and performs in accordance with all aspects of the program including grant guidelines with audit ready documentation.
Drive school buses safely and with proficiency complying with all traffic ordinances and adhere to Head Start and NJ Office of Licensing Standards.
Transport Head Start children, families and staff to and from school, field trips, also as required to screenings, meetings, etc.
Have ability to read and understand maps.
To perform and properly complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
The Bus Driver will be responsible for all aspects of the vehicles that he or she is assigned, including minor repairs.
Must maintain records of mileage and fuel usage.
After each bus run, the Bus Driver will check all seats and floors to make sure there are no children left on the vehicle.
To work cohesively with all Coordinators and center managers.
Attend staff meetings, trainings, and workshops as directed by the Transportation Supervisor and/or Head Start/Child Care Director.
Be responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of their bus.
To maintain good communication with parents and make each parent feel at ease with the program.
To use discretion when talking to parents and refer parent concerns to Family Services, Classroom Teacher or Transportation Supervisor.
Maintains a professional attitude, working cooperatively with HS/EHS staff and parents; and treats all children and their families with dignity and respect.
Schedule and location may be modified to meet the needs of the agency.
Other duties as assigned by Director, or their representative, as needed to support the goals and mission of OCEAN, Inc.

Confidentiality:
To promote and follow the confidentiality policy regarding the privacy of children, families and co-workers.
In-Kinds:
To assist Site Supervisor in seeking opportunities to obtain in-kind contributions from parent/families and the community in order to meet federal guidelines.
Inquiries:
To assist parents/families who are making inquiries into Head Start, whether answering a phone, walk-ins into the center, and/or other opportunities to give information about Head Start.
Recruitment:
To understand that the federal government requires 100% enrollment at all times.
It is everyone's responsibility to achieve this.
To achieve this goal one needs to participate in promotional/special events, etc.
related to marketing opportunities of the Head Start Program.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or G.
E.
D.
required.
Experience working with pre-school age children preferred.
Valid New Jersey Commercial Drivers License.
Type B Class license with P&S endorsement (air brake endorsement a plus).
Must have own transportation.
Must be able to lift 45 - 50 pounds.
Must have basic mathematical ability and good reasoning skills, able to communicate clearly and concisely both in written and oral form, have no points on driver's license, and consent to drug testing.

In addition the Bus Driver needs to have the following skills:
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to write reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, staff or community.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve problems, deal with variables, interpret maps, diagrams, instructions, etc.
Physical Demands:
Sit, stand, bend, carry, reach, walk, and deal with high noise level within bus.
Work Demands:
Occasional extended hours or irregular hours.
Work Environment:
Work in variety of temperatures, and road surfaces.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
